Devolving employment support successfully to regions
Employment Related Services Association (ERSA) has published a report with recommendations for government on how to successfully devolve employment support.
‘Delivering Locally at National Scale’ sets out a series of recommendations for government when following its devolution agenda. Devolution can bring support closer to the local labour market, but also creates risk of inequity, poor accountability and fragmentation.
The six recommendations cover establishing common standards and principles, building devolved commissioning capability, retaining economies of scale and system integration, ensuring continuity of provision and retention of workforce expertise, co-designing employment programmes and commissioning for longer term outcomes to create a sustainable market.
