Decline in employer vacancies slows in April

The latest KPMG/REC UK Report on Jobs highlights the uncertainty employers are feeling and how this continues to subdue their demand for workers. Overall demand continued to edge down, though at a slower rate. The decline in permanent vacancies was stronger, though an increase in temporary vacancies reduced the decline.

Candidate availability grew, partly due to fewer vacancies being offered and partly due to redundancies.

The survey suggested that, with the ongoing fighting in the Middle east, employers are reacting to the uncertainty by focusing on temporary rather than permanent role.
