2025 Youth Voice Census report shows career experiences are narrowing for young people

Youth Employment UK’s 2025 Youth Voice Census captures the perceptions of over 8,000 young people across the UK.

Only around a third of young people reported having a part-time job, down from 40-42% previously, and, while 76% say they value work experience, only 26% said they undertook any last year.

Yet 55% feel they have skills employers want, though young women, FSM students and those with additional needs all had lower confidence.

Overall the report found an increase in ‘middling’ responses to much of the survey – with fewer good and bad responses – considered a sign of fatigue rather than contentment. Support for wellbeing is improving but the levels of wellbeing reported by young people was flat.

School support is improving generally, but careers advice, work experience and employer engagement all declined.
