19 Technical Excellence Colleges announced across England

The UK Government has announced 19 new Technical Excellence Colleges across England to deliver high-level technical skills for key sectors. The colleges aim to train 65,000 learners with the skills needed for ‘high-demand jobs in Britain’s fastest-growing industries’.

Backed by £175m of funding, the colleges will deliver training related to advanced manufacturing, clean energy, defence and digital/technologies. The colleges are placed to align with industry demand and drive regional growth, with defence colleges situated in places including Blackpool, Plymouth and Lincoln, clean energy including Colchester, Liverpool and Somerset, Digital in areas including Birmingham and Milton Keynes, and advanced manufacturing in sites such as Wolverhampton and Newcastle.

The Prime Minister commented that “These colleges put technical skills front and centre, opening up high‑quality jobs in the industries driving Britain’s future. We are backing talent across the country, strengthening our workforce and making sure opportunity is built into the system – not left to chance.”
