OECD working paper on Tailored Work Experience in Wales
The OECD’s working paper examines the Tailored Work Experience (TWE) programme in Wales, which launched in 2022 with the aim of re-engaging 14-16-year-olds who are at risk of becoming NEET, and compares it to similar programmes in other countries.
The paper shows that work experience can have a positive effect on student motivation and long-term employment outcomes, but the effectiveness depends on the quality of the programme, student preparation and integration of the programme into wider career development activities.
The paper suggests five enhancements to the TWE programme, including broadening opportunities for workplace experiences, enhancing student career preparation, more systemic connection to wider provision and enabling early transitions into employment.
