- I am passionate about ensuring that young people have access to up to date, relevant and engaging careers education, (jncluding LMI) and independent, impartial careers advice and guidance, which allows them to explore the complexities of career decision making.
- Working within mainstream and special schools, (students on the Autistic spectrum and learning disabilities/difficulties), providing careers education and individual advice and guidance. Typed Careers Action Plans are provided to the student and school.
- Liaising with and referring students on to training providers and support agencies, at times of transiton.
- Use a range of tools to help students in their career decision making - using careers websites, verbal discussion, images, and mind maps, for example. Joint interviews with student support staff if this is the student's wish, particularly when support with communication is required - e.g. symbols
- During my training I worked within a large FE College providing IAG (information, advice and guidance), to students undertaking academic and vocational courses; supporting students making decions re courses and career paths, UCAS applications, and times of transition. Continued to work there as a volunteer, within the Careers department.
- Volunteering experience within a local Job Club, supporting the long-term unemployed to search for and apply for jobs, CV and interview preparation.
- 20+ years experince working within the NHS, in particular mental health, which included supporting clients into voluntary work and providing job coaching.
- Also work within a large FE college as a Library Administrator, with pareticular responsibility for a number of library sections, including Careers - ensure up to date resources are available including - books, University prospectuses, themed displays linked to careers e.g. career decision making, UCAS, alternatives to university including apprenticeships.
