How can career development help you?

Career development support is a key part of talent management that helps employees with their skills development, goal setting and individual career management. Employees can need career development support at any stage of their career to help them to increase motivation, achieve goals, overcome challenges or make effective decisions. Successful talent management can improve your staff retention, reduce recruitment costs, and increase productivity and morale.

How can Career Guidance Support My Employees?

There are lots of ways to support employees with their career development, depending on their needs and circumstances. These may include:

  • Individual career coaching/talent development appointments with a qualified career development professional

  • Workshops and seminars on a wide range of career development topics

  • Talks or presentations from careers, business or professional experts

  • Mentoring from fellow professionals

  • Training and development courses and programmes

  • Internships, secondments or other in-work opportunities

  • Learning and development/talent growth schemes

How can I offer career development support to my staff?

You may choose to employ career development professionals as part of your Learning and Development/HR teams, so that you can offer these services to your employees in-house. Relevant professional bodies may also provide training and career development services that may be appropriate for your staff. It is also possible to contract out elements of career development support to professional providers. Ideally, any career development professional or service provider you employ should be registered with the CDI or affiliated with another appropriate professional body.
