We are delighted to launch nine major award categories in 2020:

  • Four individual awards

  • Five best practice awards encompassing SEND; primary schools; employer engagament; technology and research

The aims of the UK Career Development Awards

  • To identify and promote excellence in career development
  • To celebrate and generate a sense of pride in the career development profession and our partners
  • To raise the profile of career development and the CDI

Award categories                                              

1.1 Individual best practice awards          

  • Career Adviser/Coach of the Year - Sponsored by the National Careers Service
  • Careers Leader of the Year - Sponsored by the DfE
  • Careers Service Manager of the Year - Sponsored by CXK
  • Rodney Cox Lifetime Achievement Award (awarded by the CDI Board) - Sponsored by CK Careers

1.2 Best practice in special needs; employer engagement; and primary sector awards

  • Careers Programme in a Special School/College - Sponsored by the Educational Development Trust
  • Career-Related Learning in Primary Schools - Sponsored by the Education and Employers charity
  • Innovative and Impactful Employer Engagement Activity - Sponsored by Careers & Enterprise Company

 Entrants to these awards do not need to be CDI affiliate organisations, although this is encouraged.

1.3 Best practice research and technology awards

  • Research Undertaken by a Careers Professional - Sponsored by Morrisby
  • Use of Technology in Career Development - Sponsored by Devclever

Eligibility criteria

In order to be eligible to receive an individual best practice Award, you must either be a member of the CDI or an affiliate organisation.

Entrants to the Career Programme in Special Schools/Colleges; Career Related Learning in Primary Schools and Innovative and Impactful Employer Engagement Activity best practice Awards do not need to be CDI Affiliate Organisations, although this is encouraged.

The Rodney Cox Lifetime Achievement Award will be nominated, agreed and presented by the CDI Board, led by the elected President.

Awards dinner – Wednesday 11 March 2020                     

There will be one winner in each category. The winners will be announced at the UK Career Development Awards Dinner, on Wednesday 11 March 2020, at a special Awards Dinner to be held at the Hilton Hotel, Leeds.

This black tie event was attended by over 120 guests last year and provides an excellent opportunity for us to celebrate and show case the very best UK-wide practice in career development. Please note all short-listed entrants MUST attend the Awards Dinner. 

Time lines

The closing date for entries is Friday 10 January 2020 at 17.00. Please email to ukcda@thecdi.net

The Board will shortlist in January and the final judging panels will be held in February 2020.

All short-listed entries must attend the Awards Dinner.
