CDI Board of Directors

The Board manages the business of the CDI, agreeing the organisation's strategy and having responsibility for the overall governance of the CDI.

The Board comprises up to twelve directors, six of whom are elected by CDI members (President, President Elect, Honorary Secretary and three directors), up to four elected by the Board and up to two co-opted by the Board. The CDI President serves one two-year term, preceded by acting as President Elect for a one-year term to ensure continuity. All other directors can serve up to two terms of three years each.

In addition to the Directors listed below, the Chair of the Ethics and Professional Standards Committee is also a voting member of the CDI and sits on the CDI Board.

President - Pete Robertson

Pete has worked in career development for over 30 years. He trained at Bristol and then worked as a career adviser in Hertfordshire and North London, specialising in support for young people with disabilities and learning difficulties. He also studied occupational psychology at University of East London, and became a chartered psychologist. He has a long standing involvement in the training of career development practitioners, and in 2001 he moved to Scotland to teach postgraduate students at Edinburgh Napier University, and was appointed as a professor in 2021.  

His research interests include the links between careers and well-being, career theory and policy, support for disadvantaged groups, and the evaluation of guidance services. Pete is a fellow of the National Institute for Career Education and Counselling and edits the NICEC Journal. 

Pete was elected President Elect in December 2022 and will begin his term as President in December 2023.

Honorary Secretary - Nicki Moore

Nicki was elected Honorary Secretary in March 2023. Nicki had already served as an elected director on the Board from 2017. As Honorary Secretary, Nicki oversees the organisation and recording of CDI governance meetings including Board meetings and the AGM.

Nicki is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in career development at the International Centre for Guidance Studies at the University of Derby. She is a fellow of the CDI and NICEC and a Senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

John Ambrose

John Ambrose joined the CDI Board in December 2021. He has over 20 years experience as a practising career development professional. He co-founded Complete-Careers LLP and oversees the business's operations including Career Mark - a Licensed Awarding Body for the Quality in Careers Standard.

Elaine joined the CDI Board in 2022. 

CDI Director Gina Visram

Gina Visram

Gina Visram is a boundless enthusiast of facilitating all things “careers”. As a qualified careers guidance professional, her roles include head of careers, freelance careers consultant, founder, and career coach.

An elected board member since April 2023, Gina is excited to be part of the team supporting the strategic direction of the CDI.

CDI Director Steph Rix

Steph Rix

Steph was elected as a Director by the Board in 2018 and is a registered professional career coach with an MA in Career Development and Coaching from Warwick University.

Steph runs Life's Work Consulting, specialising in career, leadership and team coaching and development programmes.

Nikki Lawrence

Nikki Lawrence

Nikki Lawrence was elected to the Board in 2022 having previously sat on the Board as a co-opted Director. 

Nikki Lawrence is a qualified accountant (ACMA) and joined Careers Wales in 2004. She has over 20 years’ experience in both private and public sectors.
