The Board

The CDI Board has overall responsibility for the management of the CDI, from defining the strategy and ensuring the organisation has robust business plans to achieve it, to maintaining oversight of the overall governance of the CDI.

The board is also responsible for the ongoing review and, where appropriate, updating of the CDI’s governance, in line with the processes set out in the governing documents. 

The board is chaired by the CDI President and comprises up to twelve directors, six of whom are elected by the full membership, up to four elected by the board and up to two co-opted by the board. The CDI President serves one two-year term, preceded by acting as president elect for a one-year term to ensure continuity. All other directors can serve up to two terms of three years each. 

The membership elected directors are the president, president elect, honorary secretary and three additional directors.

Finance Sub-Committee 

The board established a Finance Sub-Committee (FSC) in 2016 to enhance the governance of the CDI’s financial management. The FSC comprises three directors and the chief executive, with finance support. The FSC meets monthly and reviews the financial accounts of the CDI as well as other financial matters.

Carolyn Parry, CDI President and Chair of the Board 

Carolyn is a multi-award-winning, certified career and life coach, podcaster, and TEDx speaker with over 20 years’ experience in the field as a practitioner, manager and leader following a career change from a 17-year business management career in property, international aerospace, and technology publishing and a FTSE software consultancy.

Working originally at Aberystwyth University as practitioner, equality champion and later careers and employability director, she now runs Career Alchemy, her own private practice, supporting early stage and established professionals to develop purpose-led careers and champions the Career Development sector in Wales as the CDI Project Associate in the Principality. 

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the Higher Education Academy (now AdvanceHE), and the NCEE International Enterprise Educators Programme, she has been on the Board of the CDI since 2020 as President Elect, and also serves as a Trustee Director of Ceredigion Citizens Advice, part of the UK wide network of Citizens Advice charities, and on the Board of Antur Cymru, a £4M social enterprise which helps Welsh business start and grow.

Monica Lemecha, CDI Board Member and Honorary Secretary 

Monica has been a member of, firstly, the Institute of Career Guidance and now the Career Development Institute, since completing her professional training for the Diploma in Career Guidance in 1975. (Read more) 

The creation of the CDI was a significant undertaking in the history of the careers’ profession bringing together four separate yet complementary arms of the profession.  Each arm had its own history and focus and the challenge was to create a professional body that became a home for everyone working within those different contexts.  The CDI has done this very effectively in the short period of time it has been established and it is continuing to develop its structures to ensure the principles of good governance are embedded within it. 

I believe I have played an important role in ensuring that good governance processes and procedures have been developed and established which support the operation of the company going forward.  I consider that I have a great deal of experience in this field and, if I am elected by the members, I can continue to support the CDI in maintaining a robust governance structure which is essential to any professional body.

Julie-Anne Jamieson, CDI Board Member 

Julie-Anne is an experienced career development practitioner who has also worked in a variety of policy and leadership roles within Scottish Government, Careers Scotland and Skills Development Scotland and most recently, in independent public inquiries where she is currently Chief Executive of the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry.

She is a Trustee of Volunteer Matters, the leading UK volunteering organisation and is also President Elect of Changing the Chemistry (a Scottish registered charity which aims to improve board effectiveness through diversity). 

 

Nicki Moore

Nicki Moore, CDI Board Member 

Nicki holds the post of Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Career Development at the International Centre for Guidance Studies. She is a qualified career development practitioner and has wide experience as an operational and development manager. Nicki currently leads the continuing professional development activities at iCeGS where she is the programme leader for the MA in Careers Education and Coaching and the project manager for the iCeGS Career Leader training provision. 

Nicki has wide experience of research both in the UK and internationally and has written widely on the subject of career development. Nicki is a Fellow of the Career Development Institute and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a NICEC Fellow and a member of the Career Development Institute Board where she leads on the CDI Digital Strategy. 

 

Craig Garton3

Craig Garton, CDI Board Member 

Craig was elected as a Board member and has served on the Finance subcommittee since January 2019.  He has more than fifteen years’ experience in the career development sector, designing and delivering services that help to improve the lives of children, young people and families across the south of England.  Craig works as Director of Operations and Quality at CXK, a charity located in Kent, delivering a range of career, training and development services to all ages.

Prior to assuming his current position, Craig worked in various senior management roles overseeing service contracts, corporate services, risk management, training & development and finance.  He began his career working as a qualified careers adviser supporting adults and young people in Kent.

Stephanie Rix - CDI Board Member 

Stephanie was elected to the CDI Board in March 2018. She is a registered professional career coach with an MA in Career Development and Coaching from Warwick University.

She has over 15 years commercial marketing experience with L’Oréal and Avon and now runs Life’s Work Consulting, specialising in career, leadership and team coaching and development programmes that deliver a dynamic shift in progression – for both individuals and teams. She enjoys the variety of work with individuals and organisations including coaching MBA students at Warwick Business school helping them to navigate their next career move.She is also an associate of Women Returners supporting career returners back into organisations after an extended career break.

With a hands-on practical approach, she is an active member of the CDI and committed to making a difference to support all career professionals. She has a particular interest in improving ED&I within our profession as a whole and raising the profile of the CDI.

John Ambrose – CDI Board Member 

John Ambrose MA has recently started his third decade as practising Career Development Professional.  He is an experienced trainer, lecturer and consultant with a national profile in careers education. John’s previous experience includes a 2010 secondment to the Department for Children Schools and Families and a long-standing role within Lincolnshire County Council/Connexions.

John co-founded Complete-Careers LLP in 2016 and is currently the Strategic Director.  He oversees all services and resources, including Career Mark - a Licensed Awarding Body for the national Quality in Careers Standard. 

 John became a published author in May 2018 with the Bonkers Book of Jobs, a creative and informative approach to career learning for learners aged 8-13 years.
