Master Class : Achieving a Breakthrough with the “Stuck Client” - The Art of Effective Challenging (Afternoon Session)

Our new Master Class series offers intensive three hour, small group, practical sessions on a range of topics and themes designed to develop and enhance your guidance skills. The second Master Class, led by Helen Steele, will focus on a major guidance skill: challenging and helping clients who are stuck. Why is challenging so hard to do and do we all too often avoid it as careers advisers? Do you work with people who seem unable to move on, have unrealistic career ideas, never implement action plans and seem to go round in circles? This Master Class will help you to hone your skills in this important area.

CDI Certificate for Careers Assistants

This new two-day course is for Careers Assistants who support Careers Leaders in the administration and delivery of the careers programme and the achievement of the Gatsby Benchmarks and Quality in Careers Standard. The course will also cover how to meet the careers information needs of pupils/students; how to comply with relevant legislation and the CDI Code of Ethics and how you can keep your skills and knowledge up to date. For those wishing to accredit their learning and experience, we offer an optional accreditation package for the achievement of the QCF Level 4 Diploma in three Careers Information and Advice units.

Optimising Careers Outcomes for YP SEND

15% of young people of school age have additional needs. The new Careers Strategy places equal emphasis on all education settings to provide quality career provision to all young people. It is therefore essential that all careers professionals, whether working in mainstream, special needs or alternative settings, are able to understand the needs of all the young people with whom they engage and be able to support them to become career ready and achieve their desired career goals. This course will be of interest and value to all career development professionals, particularly careers advisers and careers leaders who have recently undertaken training through the CDI, Teach First and CEC-funded career leader training programmes.

Master Class : LMI in Career Guidance Practice: Use, Misuse or Lack of Use? (PM Session)

One of the biggest challenges for career practitioners remains how to integrate LMI into career guidance interviews and other career guidance activities. This new training day, led by and Dr Sally-Anne Barnes, Warwick University, will focus on ways of enhancing the effectiveness of LMI as an integral part of overall career interventions. The morning programme will cover the major challenges related to using LMI, with an emphasis on the practical integration and application of LMI in practice, through reflection and exercises. The afternoon will include demonstrations of LMI software and websites, which draw on LMI for All data, from four major providers: U-Explore; Career Companion; icould and CASCAID. Delegate feedback: 'Great to revisit theoretical frameworks and see where LMI fits'; Fantastic PPs - so useful'; 'Full day - ethical dimensions of LMI and information on the gig economy were highlights for me'.

Advanced Career Guidance and Coaching Skills
