Labour market information (LMI) (Free Webinar)

This webinar will focus on the use of technology in providing online learning support for career practitioners using LMI. It will highlight the potential enhancement that ICT provides, alongside some inherent tensions. A particular example will be used to highlight the potential of technology: ‘LMI for All’, funded by government in England, using state-of-the-art technology to collect, and mediate the dissemination of robust, current and reliable labour market information to support career interventions. Dr Sally-Anne Barnes and Professor Jenny Bimrose will cover some fundamental implications for practice introduce online learning units, designed to support practitioners enhance the use of LMI.

Speaker Bios

Professor Jenny Bimrose has over forty years' experience in higher education, researching, teaching at post-graduate level and managing projects, nationally and internationally. One of her ongoing research strands relates to the effective use of labour market information (LMI) in career guidance practice. Other research strands relate to the role of careers guidance in the career biographies of young people and adults making transitions into and through the labour market; the practical application of career adaptability; the career progression of women in the labour market, internationally; lifelong guidance policies and practice across Europe; and the integration of parents and carers in careers education and guidance.

Dr Sally-Anne Barnes is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Employment Research, University of Warwick. With an established track record in research, she has worked on and managed a range of projects in the area of careers, work and technology for over 17 years. Her international research projects have investigated the impact of technology on work and the transformation of careers and the labour market, plus how individuals engage with lifelong guidance and learning across the life course, navigate the labour market and the narratives around these transitions and decisions. Sally-Anne currently manages the IER Doctoral programme at Warwick.
