Optimising Careers Outcomes for YP SEND

15% of young people of school age have additional needs. The new Careers Strategy places equal emphasis on all education settings to provide quality career provision to all young people. It is therefore essential that all careers professionals, whether working in mainstream, special needs or alternative settings, are able to understand the needs of all the young people with whom they engage and be able to support them to become career ready and achieve their desired career goals. This course will be of interest and value to all career development professionals, particularly careers advisers and careers leaders who have recently undertaken training through the CDI, Teach First and CEC-funded career leader training programmes.

Masterclass - Preparing for Ofsted as a Careers Leader

While there are many types of careers leader - those who come from a teaching background, career guidance practitioner background and some who come from industry and other professions - all have one thing in common: they will at some point face the challenge of preparing for Ofsted’s new inspection framework which comes into force in September 2019. This inspection framework includes a new area of judgement called 'personal development', which incorporates most of the work that comes under the auspices of the careers leader. This new masterclass, presented by Janet Colledge, will cover the pertinent requirements of the new Ofsted framework; help careers leaders to support their SLT in understanding the needs of the careers department to meet these requirements; record keeping that Ofsted will expect to see and enable you to feel more confident about planning for Ofsted inspection.
