The Careers Leaders' Conference 2022 is now over

The National Career Leaders Conference and Exhibition is jointly organised by the CDI, iCeGS at the University of Derby and Optimus Education. The conference was held as a LIVE in-person event on Thursday 30 June at the University of Derby, Kedleston Road Campus. View the 2022 programme here.

This was the fifth conference of its type, designed to support the learning, information sharing and professional development of Careers Leaders working in secondary schools, FE and SEND schools and colleges, Enterprise Coordinators and Careers Advisers.

The theme of the conference was ‘Deepening strategic careers leadership’ and expert practitioners invited attendees to join thought-provoking discussions during keynote and panel sessions, and workshops throughout the day.

There was also an exhibition, which provided an opportunity to engage with organisations supporting the careers sector. View 2022 exhibitors here.

Sub themes and the topics for the workshops

  1. Developing the workforce: This theme is about how you identify training needs and meet these using a variety of innovative approaches. We would also like to hear about how you evaluate the impact of these activities. Everyone within the workforce is involved in careers development in some way, including internal and external individuals such as governors, employers, teaching and non-teaching staff and senior leaders.
  2. Developing the culture: The ambition is to get to the point where all teachers recognise that they are “teachers of careers” and that career development is central to a learning organisation’s mission. What measures did you take to get to this point? What were the barriers and how did you overcome them?
  3. Developing practical approaches: We want to hear about innovation. How have you used the lessons from the pandemic in terms of the use of technology? What have you kept and what have you dropped? How are you involving stakeholders and parents in the planning and delivery of careers work? What measures are you taking to ensure that parents are fully engaging with their child’s career development needs?
