Community of Practice for Careers Leaders

Launched on 23 September 2019 -

What is this Community of Practice all about?

At its simplest, this CoP is focused on meeting the information, professional development and networking needs of careers leaders through an easy to use, responsive, moderated and mediated online forum.

We recognise that careers leaders are extremely busy people, often working in an isolated way with limited opportunities to get out of school/college and attend physical meetings and visits. This new online CoP will provide you with access to relevant information and support in an easy to use and engage-with way.

In the first year we have made this forum:
  • A primary way of linking and connecting careers leaders locally, regionally and nationally
  • A major go to resource for careers leaders
  • The online place where your questions will be answered by experts
Features include:
  • Regular blogs
  • Interviews/career conversations
  • Information sharing
  • Q&A section
  • Resources
  • CPD

Open access forums frequently suffer from information overload and inappropriate advertising, so the new CoP for careers leaders is a closed forum. Membership of the CoP is part of our package of membership benefits - so you will need to be a member of the CDI to take part. In this way we are able to offer a moderated and mediated forum which will avoid commercial bias and ensure that content complies with the CDI Code of Ethics.

12 months on launch, the forum has 658 members. It has recorded 253 posts; 1339 post views and 121 blog views.

Feedback from a careers leader

This is an excellent forum to read blogs, keep up do date with news and current affairs relating to careers without actually leaving the school.  Questions can be asked and answered. I will use this platform continuously.  This is an excellent way to meet other careers leaders and share good practice.  It is a fantastic idea and one that I share regularly with the careers hub. Mandy Weyers, Avon Valley College.

How is the CoP managed?

We are working closely with the Careers & Enterprise Company to share communications and resources. We have appointed Kath Wright to mediate the CoP. Kath can be contacted through the CoP or at
