Community of Practice for Careers Leaders

Launched on 23 September 2019 - https://www.careersleaders.thecdi.net/

What is this Community of Practice all about?

At its simplest, this CoP is focused on meeting the information, professional development and networking needs of careers leaders through an easy to use, responsive, moderated and mediated online forum.

We recognise that careers leaders are extremely busy people, often working in an isolated way with limited opportunities to get out of school/college and attend physical meetings and visits. This new online CoP will provide you with access to relevant information and support in an easy to use and engage-with way.

Within 12 months we aim to make this forum:

  • A primary way of linking and connecting careers leaders locally, regionally and nationally
  • A major go to resource for careers leaders
  • The online place where your questions will be answered by experts

Planned features include:

  • Regular blogs
  • Interviews/career conversations
  • Information sharing
  • Q&A section
  • Resources
  • CPD

Open access forums frequently suffer from information overload and inappropriate advertising, so the new CoP for careers leaders is a closed forum. Membership of the CoP is part of our package of membership benefits - so you will need to be a member of the CDI to take part. In this way we are able to offer a moderated and mediated forum which will avoid commercial bias and ensure that content complies with the CDI Code of Ethics.

How is the CoP to be managed?

We are working closely with the Careers & Enterprise Company to share communications and resources. We have appointed Kath Wright to mediate the CoP. Kath can be contacted through the CoP or at kath.wright@thecdi.net

Kath Wright is a consultant, trainer and writer specialising in careers and work-related education. She has over 35 years’ experience of working in education covering posts in schools, a Careers/Connexions Service and in School Improvement with Essex Local Authority. Kath was President of the Association for Careers Education and Guidance, chaired the Advisers and Inspectors (AICE) network for some 10 years. She sits on the Career Development Institute Board representing Careers Education and is the lead trainer for the CDI’s Certificate in Careers Leader.
