What will I cover on the course?

You will;

  • Develop your understanding of the careers education and guidance sector
  • Explore the difference between a guidance interview and information and advice interviews
  • Extend your knowledge of sources of career information
  • Develop the skills for effective use of career information to support student needs
  • Learn how to structure an information and advice session
  • Identify the relevant legislation, Statutory Guidance for Schools and Colleges and the CDI Code of Ethics and how to ensure your practice is compliant
  • Explore ways of keeping skills and knowledge up to date

How is the course structured?

The course is offered as either face to face training or on-line.  Both pathways are delivered over two full days with the on line route broken down into 8 modules.  The on-line sessions will be face to face via zoom with your group and trainer in real time.  The training is a mix of presentation and activity based and will also provide you with guidance on how to evidence your learning for assessment purposes.  You will receive a workbook to accompany the training and be provided with access to a bank of resources.  Your named assessor will support you throughout, helping you to plan your work and providing constructive feedback.

For those wishing to accredit their learning we offer accreditation for three units of  the QCF Level 4 Diploma in Careers Information and Advice.  Participants will receive a certificate from OCR showing the three units achieved along with a CDI Certificate for Career Assistants. The units offered are:

  • Unit 3 Interact with clients to determine their need for career information, advice, and guidance
  • Unit 4 Meeting the career-related information needs of clients
  • Unit 9 Source, evaluate and use Labour Market Information (LMI) with clients

How is my work assessed?

There is no assessment of work for the non-accredited route.  For the accredited route, you will provide evidence of your work practice through observations, assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio.  Should your submitted work not meet the standard required, your assessor will guide you on what needs to be done before you re-submit.
