The CDI are delighted to offer the new CDI Certificate for Career Coaches.  There is the option to do this course either as a CPD non accredited programme or as an accredited programme that offers 18 credits towards the QCF level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development.

About this course

This course is aimed at those practitioners who provide one to one coaching for clients and use activities that lead to increased clarity, personal change and forward action.

It is not a ’coaching’ course, but rather, provides the career context for those already engaged in coaching activities.  The course will examine current thinking in career theory and how this might apply to your practice whilst also exploring the range of sources of career information and labour market intelligence that can be used to support clients.


Who will benefit?

  • Career Coaches who focus on the individual’s career concerns, with the coach eliciting and using feedback on the individual’s capabilities as part of a discussion of career options.
  • Performance coaches who offer coaching activities aimed at enhancing an individual’s performance in their current role at work.
  • Skills coacheswho are generally focused on achieving a number of skill development objectives that are linked to the needs of the organisation.
  • Personal or life coaches who help individuals to explore what they want in life and how they might achieve their aspirations and fulfil their needs.
  • Business coaches who support individuals or group in an organisational context.
  • Executive coaches: who provide one to one performance coaching to improve individual and organisational performance.


How the course is delivered

This course is offered as a two-day face to face training course and also as a virtual learning course.  Our trainers, Liane Hambly and Helen Janota have a well-deserved reputation for excellence in training delivery within the Career Development Sector.   See individual programmes for details  


Accredited Route

For those wishing to follow the accredited route, support materials and two additional virtual sessions will be provided with a CDI assessor to support you in meeting the evidence requirements.  The units within this package are;

  • Unit 3 Career Guidance Theory (9 credits)
  • Unit 6 Use Career and Labour Market Information with clients (6 credits)
  • Unit 15 Source, evaluate and use Labour Market Intelligence with clients (3 credits)

For those wishing to qualify as a Career Development Professional, progression onto the full level 6 course to gain the remaining credits required to achieve the 60 credits require for QCF Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development is available.  This then allows access to the CDI Professional Register

Module 1 Application of career theory to coaching practice

  • Developments in Career Guidance theory over time
  • Understanding of concepts and models to support clients in career planning and development
  • Tools to support career decision making, motivation and progression
  • The relationship between change management and career guidance

Module 2 Exploring research and LMI to support client progression

  • Research supporting the career guidance practitioner
  • The future of career
  • Labour market information as a change agent
  • Labour market intelligence, sources and uses



  • Non accredited route: CDI member £290
  • Non accredited route: non-member £380
  • Accredited route £915

For the accredited route you need to become a member of the CDI at the cost of £130.00 (inclusive of a one off admin charge of £25.00).  This would be for one year only.  If you go on to do the full Level 6 Diploma you will be given the next 12 months’ membership for free as part of this course.

CDI Courses - Response to Corona Virus outbreak

We have introduced new virtual learning  courses in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.  These provide the same high quality of training and support that is offered with our face to face training which we are continuing to offer.  

We realise that the corona virus outbreak is causing much concern and we are monitoring developments closely and following advice from Public Health England. We are proceeding with our face to face learning programmes advertised below, subject to getting the minimum number of candidates required for the courses to be viable to run.   Should there be further lockdowns locally or nationally we will offer those learners on face to face training the option of delaying parts of the training affected or changing to virtual delivery.  Our aim is to minimise any disruption to learning and ensure you have a positive and enjoyable experience of training with the CDI.  Our highly experienced trainers and assessors will support you every step of the way.
