This workshop is designed to support career development and employability practitioners to develop their understanding of autism, therefore building confidence to provide appropriate support to clients, young people and adults - who identify with this diagnosis. 

During the day we will explore : 

  • What is autism and the differences in key areas that individuals with a diagnosis may experience
  • The current rates of access to further and higher education and entry into employment for those with an autism diagnosis 
  • Ideas for adapting careers advice and guidance practice to meet the needs of a client with autism - your autism toolkit 
  • Further reading and resources 

The day will be practical and interactive with lots of opportunity for discussion

Target audience

Career advisers and coaches ; career leaders and career co-ordinators; employability advisers and coaches, working with young people, students and adults who identify with a diagnosis of autism or who are undertaking assessment as such. 

Learning outcomes

By the end of the day delegates will be able to :

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the individuality of autism
  • Demonstrate confidence in how to make initial adaptations to information, advice and guidance principals to meet the needs of the individual client 
  • Demonstrate confidence with further resources to increase knowledge base where appropriate
  • Identify and know where/how to access useful online, video and printed resources.
