Tackling Gender Stereotypical Choices (Free Webinar)

Thursday 27th September - 4pm

This is the 'Year of Engineering' and the CDI is working with the Engineering UK to publish articles and present webinars which will support our careers education and guidance practice. This webinar will focus on the tackling gender stereotypical choices. This webinar will be presented by Nicky Thomas; she will describe ways that unconscious bias and gender stereotyping influence students' option and career choices. She will also explain effective school-wide approaches to help students overcome the impact of stereotyping when making decisions about their future. Nicky works for the Institute of Physics in their diversity department and is a part-time physics teacher.

Nicky Thomas has worked for the Institute of Physics Diversity Department since 2014, initially for the improving gender balance pilot study evaluating whole school approaches to tackling the impact of gender stereotyping, and currently as part of the SPN project, introducing IoP's whole school equality project in the West Midlands and South West. She also teaches physics part-time.
