Context

This one-day masterclass introduces the Chaos Theory of Careers.

This innovative approach to career development and coaching was developed to reflect the realities of a rapidly changing, complex and uncertain world in which work is enacted.  It takes into account chance events, opportunity awareness, resilience and the need for creative re-invention to remain relevant and viable in the face of constantly shifting requirements of the labour market. 

We will present practical techniques to assist clients gain insights into how they respond to change and uncertainty, as well as coaching exercises, assessment tools and models of chaos-based counselling practice. The Beyond Personal Mastery® model of creativity will be presented as a framework for creative responses to complex and changing circumstances.  The course will be supported by extensive (optional) further reading available to all delegates.

About the Presenter

Jim Bright is an Organisational Psychologist, Professorial Fellow in Career Education and Development at Australian Catholic University and Visiting Professor of Career Development at the University of Derby, UK.  His primary research interests focus on the application of complexity and chaos approaches to career development, and leading educational change. He has published extensively on career development including 12 books and over 100 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, reports and careers tests.

Dr Bright combines his academic role with running Bright and Associates, a career development consultancy specialising in career coaching, medico-legal assessment, expert witness testimony, speaking and training.  He has written over 1000 medico-legal reports related to vocational capacity, and has written a weekly careers column in the Sydney Morning Herald for over a decade.

Professor Jim is a widely experienced keynote and workshop presenter. In recent years he has presented invited keynotes and addresses in the USA, Canada, UK, China, Taiwan, Philippines, New Zealand and around most of Australia. He skillfully combines authority, intellect, humour and entertainment to convey important messages about change and creativity in an accessible, fun and memorable way.  Jim is an invited or regular guest on various radio and television programs.
