Who is this course for?

This work-based qualification is designed for practitioners whose role involves providing personal career guidance and development to clients. Successful completion meets the qualification requirement for the UK Register of Career Development Professionals.

You will;

  • explore developments in the career guidance and development sector, principles, policies, and the benefits it brings to society, the economy and the individual
  • develop your skills as a reflective practitioner and engage in continuous improvement
  • evaluate a wide range of Career Guidance Theories and consider how to apply these to your practice in order to best support your clients
  • develop the interview skills and strategies required to support clients with their career decision making and building their self-awareness, confidence and resilience
  • build an extensive knowledge of education and training systems and sources of labour market information and be able to use this effectively with clients.

How is the course structured?

This course is offered as a blended learning programme.   The on-line sessions will include a pre recorded presentation, followed by face to face on line training with your group and trainer in real time.  In these sessions you will explore the issues raised in the presentation and look at how to evidence your learning for assessment.  You will receive a workbook to accompany the training and provided with access to a bank of resources.  Your named assessor will support you throughout, helping you to plan your work and providing constructive feedback.

How is my work assessed?

You will provide evidence of your work practice through observations, assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio.  Should your submitted work not meet the standard required, your assessor will guide you on what needs to be done before you re-submit.

What our learners say

    • I have been incredibly impressed by the quality of the training provided by the CDI. The trainers are helpful, supportive and have allowed me to develop my skills and knowledge, which will make me a better practitioner for my clients. I would highly recommend CDI training and am so pleased with the experiences I have had. Kate Perry
    • The CDI L6 Careers Guidance and Development course has been of great benefit to me and although a lot of work, it has been very enjoyable. The trainers are approachable and friendly and are experts in the careers sector - they have a huge depth of knowledge which they are happy to share. The course is very well organised with lots of communication so that you never feel isolated. Sarah Calvert
    • Thanks so much for two great days of guidance training (interview skills) - I really enjoyed it and learned so much.
