This new two-day conference is designed to support the Government's Careers Strategy and Statutory Guidance for Schools and Colleges. During the conference we will explore all aspects of what has been previously referred to as careers education, information, advice and guidance, focusing specifically on the delivery of the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Target audience

This event follows on from David Andrew’s highly successful ‘York Conference’ and is aimed at career development practitioners based in schools and colleges including: Senior and middle career leaders; career teachers; career advisers; governors; employers; widening participation practitioners; QCD and L6 students; enterprise coordinators; Local Authority, EBP and LEP representatives.

Conference themes

The conference will have the Gatsby Benchmarks as its main focus and by attending the event, delegates will

  • Develop their knowledge and understanding of the Gatsby Benchmarks;
  • Understand the link between the Gatsby Benchmarks and the statutory requirements for career guidance;
  • Learn more about quality assurance through the Compass tool and Quality in Careers Standard;
  • Share and discuss ideas for innovation and implementation within career guidance. 

Conference fee and booking

 The conference packages have been designed to be as flexible as possible:

  • The conference fee covers all refreshments and lunches over the two days. The special earlybird rate is available from today through to Friday 11 May. Thereafter the standard rate will apply to all bookings.
  • Accommodation is not included in the conference fee but we have been able to achieve a special conference rate at
    • 1) Jurys Inn, Derby (Tel:0115 901 6707) - quoting the reference - JIDERB110718. This hotel is holding 60 rooms for the conference at £109 bed and breakfast. If you do not want breakfast please book through Jurys Inn Derby or Booking.com  
    • 2) Holiday Inn Express Derby (Tel: 0871 902 1607) - quoting reference CTM. This hotel is able to offer bed and breakfast at £87.50
  • The conference dinner is an optional event which we hope you will choose to attend. The Masa Restaurant (an old Wesleyan Chapel) is a popular venue offering great food.

Venue details

Conference venue: University of Derby, Enterprise Centre, Bridge Street, Derby, DE1 3LD. The Enterprise Centre is just minutes from Derby train station and only a short distance from the M1 and East Midlands Airport. Please note that parking at the Enterprise Centre is strictly limited. There is road parking in the vicinity of the venue.

Accommodation: Jurys Inn, Derby or Holiday Inn Express. NB Delegates must book and pay for their own accommodation, ie this is not part of the conference fee.
