Conference Themes

Responding to members’ ideas, just three months after we opened our doors, we presented our first Annual Conference and Exhibition. Amongst other aims, our shared vision for the CDI is that we should work to:

  • Enhance the profession
  • Understand the career development market and how other professions perceive career development
  • Provide CPD opportunities for our members and the wider career development sector.

We have used the vision as the backbone of the Conference, which has three major themes:

  1. Career Development in Focus - a series of interactive symposia enabling members to take part in defining and shaping our profession and pathway
  2. Career Development in Context - a series of structured panels of independent economic, professional and community experts
  3. Career Development in Practice - seminar strands focusing on your CPD and personal development.

The first two themes were addressed through interactive and highly participative plenary sessions: a mix of inputs and panel sessions, with speakers from within and outside the sector, designed to stimulate questions and debate. This format enabled our delegates to have real influence on the future development of the CDI and the professional pathway for the sector.

The third theme, career development in practice, took the form of groups of workshops, which were of interest to both individual members and all CDI professionals.

Exhibition

A major part of the Conference experience was the 30-stand exhibition of organisations that provide information and services to the career development sector. For more information on the exhibition and sponsorship opportunities, please contact rachael.murray@thecdi.net

Workshops

A major theme of our first Annual Conference and Exhibition was CPD and Member’s investment in their professional practice.

Throughout the two-day conference we ran a number of workshop strands. Presented by experts, these workshops promoted best practice and innovation in the career development sector. They were also topical in the current economic and policy climate, interesting, informative and enjoyable for participants.

Importantly, the workshops were grouped into four distinct strands linked to the major CDI constituencies. Delegates could attend any workshop or combination of workshops relating to their current role, future job requirements, or personal interest. Download the official Workshop Booklet 2013 for more information.
