Certificate in Career Guidance Theory (CCGT)

Career CCGT SCH Talking

This Certificate has been designed for those NVQ/SVQ Level 4 holders who have an advice and guidance or LDSS award that did not address careers guidance issues in any depth. This specifically relates to careers guidance theory, the study and application of labour market intelligence, and theories of reflection

These elements correspond to three units in the QCF Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development : Unit 2 (Reflect on and improve professional practice), Unit 3 (Career guidance theory), and Unit 6 (Use career and labour market information).

The purpose of the CDI's recognition is that awarding bodies will only be able to offer unit accreditation. It is the Institute that recognises this achievement for what it is and awards the Certificate in Career Guidance Theory.

How do I achieve the Certificate?

First you will need to register for the Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development through an Assessment Centre that has been approved to run this award by an awarding body.  Once you have achieved the three units you then apply to the CDI for the CCGT certificate, completing the application form and enclosing a photocopy of your unit certificates and the award fee of £25 to cover the costs of processing your application and the production of the certificate itself.

Is the CCGT available only for the NVQ 4 holders mentioned above?

No, it is available to other practitioners who may simply want to update their knowledge and gain some recognition for it. We know, for instance, that a number of former practitioners wish to return to the profession, following a career break.  You would still need to complete the 3 QCF units and follow the certification process outlined above.  Remember however that this alone would not allow you to gain access to the register.
